the world, being hardy in most climates, and thriving with a minimum
of care.
Daylily Care and
Cultural Instructions
Location: Full sun or partial shade,
well-drained soil, away from greedy hedge or tree roots. Ideal
light is provided with filtered light by tall palms or other
open-branched trees. Daylilies thrive in well-drained clay
pots and excel up to 5 years without re-potting.
Soil: In Hawaii a mixture of 60% black
cinder, 20% cane soil and 20% mac-nut mulch. Raised beds
are very popular as long and good drainage is essential.
Mulch: Cedar bagged mulch, chips and
small coconut husk chips. ( In areas with plenty of rain, cedar
shavings). All of the above are excellent weed control, as
well.
Water: Daylilies enjoy watering but DO
NOT DO WELL WITH WET FEET, good drainage is a must.
Planting: Plants are best at least 18"
apart.
